Telecasters

I bought a black, second-hand Stagg Telecaster copy from a junk shop for £50. It's got a solid alder body which at this price is pretty impressive. I feel slightly sheepish about the fact that I genuinely find it more playable than my other two, far more expensive guitars. The neck is perfection. Obviously the pickups are a different matter, but I understand now why alot of people feel that this design, which was sort of the first mass-produced electric guitar, has never really been bettered. I'm also beginning to understand why people like Bruce Springsteen become so bombastic when they're playing one. It's just so rudimentary and twangtastic sounding. You can get an instant, hard-edged Syd impression going on it as well.

So I went

to the Apple Store on Friday and took a little spin on one of the upgraded Mini Macs, to see how it coped with the upgraded Garageband in the upgraded iLife '08, which is a group of things called APPLICATIONS. In the ten or so minutes I was standing there I, a computer 'bouffon', was able to work out how to use all of the new features I was interested in, like EQ Analyser and Arranger and shit. I also learnt that it now has 24 bit audio recording capability, freeze functions for individual tracks, and double the amount of effects available for each channel. It all worked very speedily as well. I'm so impressed with all of this.

It made me wonder why anyone would want to spend about £70 on Sequel, whose projects you can't yet import into Cubase when, as far as I'm aware, Garageband is now only inferior in terms of the number of loops you get bundled with it.

If anyone knows any interesting, amusing or incredibly erotic anecdotes about Buckminster Fuller, architect and inventor of the geodesic dome, now's the fucking time! To share them.

Swanky iMac sex shocker

The new generation of iMacs will be in of a slimmer design and finished in 'brushed aluminium'. OOOOOHH I say. But they might do away with the Mac Mini, which I'm really sad about.

Sissons' soft rock ballad moment

Watching BBC News 24. Peter Sissons is struggling with the pressure of covering the Glasgow Airport incident. He produced the following insight:

'..who was the first person to report to me about the incident, said that the man was fighting with police officers and that his heart CLOTHES, his CLOTHES, were on fire...'

Ah, summer. Time for a little sun-dappled 60's french pop, shimmery guitars, soft female vocals and stuff. Lets see what Dani can offer us on Youtube. Wait...what the...what is happening? I thought the Germans did this first?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWN1Cr6gSYg

Think I'll try Francoise Hardy.
